VSG

VSG is a successful, St. Louis-based, media duplication and replication facility that started years ago with just a few VHS duplication decks and has since grown into a multimillion dollar facility using the latest technologies in CD and DVD replication. VSG competes nationally with the best and the biggest and needs to show its best face when presenting itself to new clients. While it cannot beat the size of some west coast-based facilities, it can turn its seeming shortcoming into an advantage by showing what makes them just as good, if not even better than the biggest guys on the block.

PROJECT PROFILE

VSG approached us with a request to produce a short promotional video that would help clients not only visualize the company’s cutting edge operations and production capabilities, but would also give them an insight to the heart of the company – its people.

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

A script was written to emphasize the company's strengths by utilizing impressive visual elements available in replication technologies. In preproduction, the apparent challenge laid in covering a multitude of locations in just two days. The footage acquisition assumed that each station of interest would be fully operational at the time of shooting. It required a careful planning on both ends to ensure that one production wouldn’t disrupt the other. To cut down on production time, shots were planned and carefully storyboarded.

In production, a decision to invest in a Steadicam ended up saving the day because it allowed the crew to move ahead with production at an accelerated pace, while capturing complex motion shots. Since the footage closely matched the storyboard, editing was a breeze. Capturing the footage, recording narration, creating animations, selecting music, graphical treatments and putting the final touches on edits only took 8 hours. The entire production was completed in 4 days.

RESULTS

The 8-minute video has been a great success, it has become an indispensable selling tool. Through its engaging visuals accomplished through well-lit technology and moving camera shots to its dynamically narrated story, the video holds viewers’ attentions and uses only a fraction of time to show and tell what is difficult to express in words.

MORAL

This project showcases effectiveness and efficiency. Understanding the client's need, the product, the process, the challenges and applying knowledge of video production process and equipment, allowed for making the right decisions in the production process. This ultimately resulted in a quality product that was produced in a short time. VSG continues to benefit from this investment.
